Brief History of the Church in Indiana
In 1831, missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived in Indiana and organized congregations. Church President Joseph Smith visited Greenville for one month in 1832.
Early Church members held meetings in homes until a hall was rented in 1913. In 1927, a meetinghouse was built and then dedicated by Church President Heber J. Grant.
Today, church members in Indiana come from all walks of life. Church members here share a rich heritage of community and public service. They are active in youth sports leagues, community events, the Boy Scouts and much more. They are teachers, dentists, construction workers, mothers, fathers and your neighbors.
