Profiles of Local Mormons

Vai Sikahema

Hello, I'm Vai Sikahema.  Our family has been proud to call this area home for almost 20 years. As a former Philadelphia Eagle and now as Sports Director for a local TV station, I've come to know and love the people of this region.

A few years ago, our family traveled to New Zealand to visit the Mormon temple there. I shared with my children an experience from my childhood. When I was a boy, my parents spent six years working and saving money to travel over a thousand miles from our home in Tonga to the nearest temple, in New Zealand. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they believed that families could be together forever through sacred ordinances performed in temples, and they wanted those blessings for their family. Their sacrifices for that spiritual journey continue to impact my life every day, as I strive to follow Jesus Christ and his teachings.

Andy Reid

Hello, I'm Andy Reid. For the past twelve years, I have been the Head Football Coach of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.  We have all worked very hard and feel very fortunate to have grown over the years to become one of the top organizations in pro football.

As a Mormon, it has been equally exciting for me to see our church grow in the great city of Philadelphia over those twelve years. The Lord's campus continues to grow and we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are pleased to be his humble students.

Dave and Cindy

Hi! We’re Dave and Cindy, proud parents of four children and eleven grandchildren.

We joined the Church as newly married adults and went to the temple two weeks before our first son arrived.  We are a forever family because we have been sealed for time and all eternity. We are grateful for temples that allow us the opportunity of being with our family forever, if we follow Heavenly Father’s commandments.  We love to go to the temple as it offers us peace and solace from a busy world. In the temple, we can focus on spiritual matters without interruption. We are excited that the Philadelphia Temple will be so close.

Taft

Hi, I'm Taft.  I'm a college student in Delaware. I like reading, writing a blog, rock climbing, current events, history, and LEGOs. I recently returned from serving a two-year mission in California. I enjoy teaching the Old Testament to a group of Mormon teens each morning before they head to school.

The temple is a place where I feel closer to God. It takes me away from the rush and turmoil of the world and focuses my heart and mind on Jesus Christ. I feel peace there, and take that peaceful feeling with me as I return to my daily activities. I'm excited about having a temple an hour away, in Philadelphia, and look forward to attending often.
