Humanitarian Service in Winnipeg

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsors humanitarian relief and development projects around the world that benefit those of all faiths. These projects include emergency relief assistance in times of disaster and programs that strengthen the self-reliance of individuals, families and communities.

Hundreds of full-time volunteers with skills and experience in education, agriculture, social work, business and medicine serve throughout the world as part of these humanitarian projects. Read more about Church Humanitarian Service. These relief efforts include responses to the recent tsunamis, the earthquake in Haiti, the hurricanes in Louisiana and Texas and the famines in Ethiopia.

While projects are carried out all over the world, local Church members in the Winnipeg area are also engaged in humanitarian efforts for the benefit of our communities such as assisting in flood cleanup projects as far away as Minot, North Dakota. (see photos above and below)

Local humanitarian service projects have also included annual food collection efforts for the Winnipeg Harvest (a food bank in Winnipeg) and also in the city of Selkirk just north of Winnipeg for their food bank which has produced about 23,000 lbs of food in a part of the year when donations are not as plentiful. Members also regularly serve in the Siloam Mission serving meals to the homeless twice a month. Local Church members also participate in a live Nativity on a weekend near Christmas as a contribution to our community.

These types of projects, and many others, are carried out all over the Winnipeg area each year. While communities benefit with each project, we all benefit from the efforts we make to join together with our neighbors in humanitarian service.
